We're gearing up for our next Film Screening...

February 1 -- May is National Foster Care Awareness Month and we use our Family Film Screenings to help shed light on young people in care, particularly older teens preparing to transition out of the system facing life on their own.

Screenings take place in local movie theatres where projects are show on the big screen! Tickets are donated by Beyond Expectations to local transitional shelters and group homes so children and families can enjoy a day at the movies without having to worry about cost.

There's even an opportunity to sponsor the refreshments so each child gets a treat!

Many older teens face unsurmountable challenges obtaining skills to land jobs or even get their foot in the door. This year, we're looking for a great partner(s) to help host our first ever 18 & Out Bowl. Proceeds will help defray cost of this year's Film Screening and help us significantly expand our Youth Leadership & Training progams where we bring industry professionals from all walks of life directly to students to give them the skills they need.

It's a great cause ... and an awesome opportunity for students, families, and caring supporters from the local community to get together for a day of fun.

Here's how you can help:

  • Form a team at your company to bowl and/or volunteer. Contact SImone Jarvis at simone@beyondexp.net.
  • Become a Sponsor to support the event. Contact Leontyne Anglin at leontyne@beyondexp.net.

IT'S A WRAP ... ON ANOTHER SEASON OF GIVING!

December 15 -- This year's recipient is the Center for Child and Family Achievement at Gregory School. Their strong commitment to bridging the achievement gap focuses on parental advocacy and the importance of childhood literacy.

Appreciate the awesome partnerships again led by Target Team 1158 who spent hours with us wrapping all the books, games from Hamilton Horizons Federal Credit Union, and beautiful coats from our Grounds for Sculpture drive - all delivered directly by our volunteer elves with a surprise class visit by Santa himself!

Special thanks to Simone Jarvis for organizing another successful drive at Target, volunteer Elena Torsiello who read a story and led the whole class in a wonderful Christmas song ... and our fantastic Santa Claus (Alejandro Martinez, CEO of Ma & Pa's Tex Mex BQQ) who put smiles on all the beautiful faces.

Wishing everyone the best for a safe and peaceful holiday season.

A great way to wind down our youth media workshops for the year!

Our Motion Media Workshop was a phenomenal opportunity for students to work directly with the wonderful Interactive Multimedia team from  The College of New Jersey -- fresh off their internship at DreamWorks Animation in Hollywood.

In addition to learning what it takes to create and produce films, the students had the opportunity to get hands-on instruction with the latest equipment. Then, headed outside to learn techniques for capturing footage on i-pads. Then back inside again to edit their own original projects!

Final projects will be showcased at our next Family Film Screening.

Stay tuned ...

READY, SET, MOTION!

October 21 -- We're gearing up for another great collaborative project with the Interactive Multimedia Department at The College of New Jersey.

This new totally hands-on workshop will be offered in conjunction with two TCNJ students fresh off an internship with DreamWorks Animation Studios in Hollywood. We'll take our popular "Speedcrewing" Workshop to the next level and introduce the latest trends in motion media and mobile filmmaking.

Participants will have a chance to come up with a concept, capture footage, and edit original projects right on the spot!

Excited about this one. Stay tuned...
